Information

Situated in Hoang Hoa Tham St., Ward 2, Vung Tau City. It’s not a big one but the most ancient pagodas in Vung Tau.

Firstly built on the side of Small Mount, then in 1919 this area occupied by the French Colonialist to build the villas for the French navigators. Very soon after that, another pagoda was built and it’s existed up to now.

In the sanctum of the pagoda is an altar on which stands a 1.2m high statue of Buddha plated with gold. The subtle sculptures on the statue bring out vividly a look of mercy from the features of Buddha.
Legend goes that: more than a hundred year ago, fishing boats coming from the center of Vietnam to fish off Front Beach. Accidentally, they discovered 2 stone statues of Buddha Lying buried in the hillside near Bai Dau. They picked it up and waited to the next morning to perform a rite wherewith they took the statue away with them. But having learned of the discovery, local people rushed to the scene to have a look and they were resolved to retain statue on account that these were historical relics of the locality. The fishermen in question had to entreat for a long time before they could take the smaller statue away with them. The bigger statue remained was taken away by the villagers to be worship and it is the statue at Linh Son Co Tu now.
