There are many things to do in Hoi An. Cultural and historical sites are so numerous you’ll have to pick and choose carefully. There are many art shops and tailors galore, cooking classes and traditional village tours. Just offshore are the Cham islands, part of the Cu Lao Cham Marine park, home to 155 species of coral and 202 species of fish. Take a picnic and enjoy snorkeling and swimming from the pristine beaches. For historians, a side trip to My Son Cham Towers comes highly recommended. Though heavily visited by tourists during the day, if you depart by private car early enough you’ll arrive before the hoards and will be stunned by the tranquility and beauty of this ancient Champa kingdom.
Hoi An is often talked about as the best eating place in Vietnam. The cuisine is excellent and you will not be disappointed wherever you choose to dine. Wildlotus recommends trying ‘The Mango Rooms’, a small restaurant with a reputation for ‘modern’ Vietnamese cuisine. Don’t miss some fair trade shopping at ‘Reaching out’ - a gift shop whose profits are used to assist disabled artisans.
