Mekong Delta
Day 1: HO CHI MINH CITY – VINH LONG (L-D)Drive from Saigon to Vinh Long, stopping en route at an elaborate Caodaism Temple. En-route to Mekong Delta, seasonally, we can enjoy the peaceful scenes of farmers seeding, ploughing, and harvesting the rice crop. At Vinh Long, see how local people make tofu, floor tiles, bricks and husk rice. Take a boat trip along the mighty Mekong River and its tributaries to view the daily lives of people who work and play on the waterways of the Mekong Delta. Lunch is on an ait, in a local house set amongst fruit orchards and bonsai trees and then followed by a performance of traditional Vietnamese music. We spend the night in a typical Vietnamese local house. Home stay in Vinh Long.
Day 2: VINH LONG – CAI BE – HO CHI MINH CITY (B)
Take a morning boat trip on the Mekong River to visit the colourful and bustling floating market at Cai Be. Stop at family-run businesses producing rice paper - a key ingredient in Vietnamese cuisine. Visit a fruit wholesale market, a local school and a French-influenced Catholic church. Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon. Tour to end.
