Sapa surprise
Sapa Surprise is a great introduction to mountain biking for the whole family. It’s a gentle adventurous trip perfect for families with younger children. The region contains some of the best mountain biking in Vietnam. The scenery is spectacular, especially in spring and autumn when the skies are clear and blue.
Sapa, nestling a top a beautiful valley near the border with China, is northwest Vietnam’s most colourful destination. Vivid green rice terraces are sculpted into the mountain sides while in the fields minority women work dressed in traditional clothes. There are five different minorities in this region, each one colourful, distinct, and with their own language and cultural values.
Enjoy the combination of cycling with great scenery and friendly local villagers. Relax in the evening at a comfortable ecolodge in front of a log fire. This cycling adventure is fully supported with experienced guides on bikes or motorbikes where necessary. Recommended for families with children aged 6 to 12.
Biking
Day 1 Depart Hanoi on the evening train to Lao Cai. Sleep in comfortable 4 birth cabins.
Day 2 Arrive Lao Cai and drive to Sapa. After a hearty breakfast in Sapa town, cycle on a narrow country road along the spectacular Sapa valley. There will be plenty of time to stop, take photos and explore the surrounding countryside. Overnight in a solar powered ecolodge with stunning views down into the valley.
Day 3 Ride or jeep to the Tay village of Ban Ho nestled along the banks of a sparking river. Spend the day at your family’s pace exploring minority villages, cycling along the valley bottom. Return to the ecolodge for overnight.
Day 4 Transfer and ride to the Red Dao village of Ta phin. After lunch transfer back down the mountain to Lao Cai for the night train to Hanoi.
