Those who have ever visited Hong Son temple in Nghe An will definitely not forget the landscapes here with peace and tranquility of a solemn place right in Vinh city. Its precinct is pretty wide, well-aired with a lot of fresh flowers, decorative plants; grass ground and a semicircular lake. Hence, the temple still keeps its peacefulness with fresh air though it is near roads and markets.

There have existed a lot of assumptions regarding foundation of this temple. It is believed in some documents that this temple was founded since 18th Minh Menh (Minh Mệnh) age, year of pig (Kỷ Hợi) - 1839. However, to folk memory, this temple came into existence when Vinh city was set up, under Quang Trung reign (1788-1792). This indeed proves a very long history of Hong Son temple.

Hong Son temple is really ancient in its architecture, but greatly magnificent. Three-door gate, sculpted gate, tower, drum and gong shelf, central palaces, upper palaces all originate from Nguyen dynasty. Lower palaces, ways on the right and left, central ground, surrounding fence were later on built. Architectural works are in symmetrical arrangement and in elevating position inward. The highest is the upper palace forming a solid and solemn architecture.

The lower palace is about 274m2. It still keeps its ancient architecture though it was just restored in 1998. Locating inside are incense tables in red lacquer trimmed with gold, big hangings, drums, gongs, wooden swords, and lance. This place is to worship the Holy Mother, Tu Phu Dieu Linh (Tứ Phủ Diệu Linh) with Mandarin Hoang Muoi (Hoàng Mười). Front ground has space for rituals, rites, offerings during important rituals.

The middle palace is 65m2, a collector of excellent architectures; curved kingposts carved with image of lively-looked birds, and fish. Intersections of these kingpost and bars are carved with the four supernatural creatures interposing between branches, leaves, flowers in pretty harmony. Offerings and hangings are carefully selected and decorated. The middle palace worships Saint "Tran" (Trần) with his family and his generals such as: Tran Quoc Toan (Trần Quốc Toản), Pham Ngu Lao (Phạm Ngũ Lão), Yet Kieu (Yết Kiêu), Da Tuong (Dã Tượng), Tran Thi Dung (Trần Thị Dung), De nhi Vuong Co (Đệ nhị Vương Cô) - his daughter.

The upper palace is 102m2, with 4-layer roof, curved corners heaped up with image of dragons, phoenixes. Statue of Jade Emperor and "Nam Tào Bắc Đẩu" are located high in this palace. "Quan Thánh Đế Quân" - ancestral table - is primarily worshipped in this palace.
