| The Nui Coc pond clouded in mystery and legend |
One legend is about the love between a boy and girl named Coc who could not marry each other. The boy became sad and was turned into a mountain while the girl, saddened by the loss, cried until her tears became a stream -- hence the names Coc Mountain and Coc River.
And it is at this site that an artificial pond called Nui Coc (or coc mountain) was built. It has become a popular destination for tourists.
The site has a panoramic view of the landscape and has modern recreational facilities to the north and south of the lake. The air is fresh and windy.
Long mountain ranges and huge trees blocking out views manage to weave a picture of nature that is both serene and immersed in legend. Standing in front of the lake, tourists can feel its vastness and the permanence of nature.
Often compared to a giant mirror that reflects everything, the sparkling Nui Coc Pond is truly the stuff of legend, jumping in and out of view in an almost unworldly manner.
Here tourists have many recreational options. You can go on tours exploring the cave of legendary palace (dong Huyen Thoai Cung), cave of three pines (dong Ba Cay Thong), or the fairytale cave (dong The Gioi Co Tich).
You will be surely impressed by its labyrinthine structure, nature’s masterpiece cloaked in various shapes and colors. You can read fairytales carved on cave walls. Visitors will be transported to a different world, and can leave behind their everyday miseries.
Once outside the caves, you can take boats around the pond, explore Nui Cai Islet to visit a traditional village where over 1,000 kinds of products, handmade from copper, pottery, and porcelain, are on display.
In this amalgam of natural and manmade worlds you can enjoy local specialties including fish and prawns that will fill you with enough energy to continue the journey after a good night’s sleep in one of the mini-hotels nicely situated on the hills.
