A good location in a boisterous part of HCM City has made Binh Quoi II Tourist Resort a great place for a vacation, fine food and entertainment.

Binh Quoi Tourist Resort looks out on the Saigon River and is five kilometers from HCM City’s downtown. It covers a variety of tourist services, including food, accommodation, entertainment, sports, and especially gastronomical events such as traditional and cultural festivals that cater to the tastes of Vietnamese and international tourists.

At present, Binh Quoi Tourist Village manages five main places, namely Binh Quoi I Tourist Resort, Binh Quoi II Tourist Resort, Saigon Floating Restaurant, Tan Cang (New Port) Tourist Resort, and Van Thanh Tourist Resort.

Binh Quoi II Tourist Resort was put into operation in 1984 by Saigontourist Holding Company, with the first model being a riverside restaurant. Encouraged by the initial success, Saigontourist expanded the total area to 25,380m2, experimenting with different tourism services but specializing in gastronomy, entertainment and accommodation, giving full expression to Vietnamese culture and traditions in a green, airy atmosphere.

The resort’s strength is its gastronomical services, with a group of restaurants along the Saigon River capable of accommodating 1,000 people at a time. Binh Quoi II Restaurant has Western and Asian dishes, but highlight dishes from all regions of Vietnam, especially those that tourists are most interested in, such as goi ngu sac (five-color salad), lau hoa ca ngac (ngac fish hot pot), ga gio rang muoi hot (cockerel roasted with unrefined salt), and many more.

Talking about the gastronomy offered at Binh Quoi II, visitors should not miss the buffets. There is a collection of the 60 top seafood dishes of Vietnam coastal cities like Vung Tau, Phan Thiet and Nha Trang. Chiem Thanh Long, Binh Quoi Tourism Village director, is famous for his collection of hundreds of Vietnamese folk dishes. He says the seafood buffets are a strong point of the village and meet the demands of local and international tourists who want dishes that stand out because of their taste but which are fully part of Vietnamese culture.

As for accommodation, Binh Quoi II has 43 bungalows in a quiet and green atmosphere. The price for each room is VND300,000-400,000 a day, and this includes breakfast. So it’s an ideal place for tourists to rest and relax, close to the city but away from the usual pressure of the downtown.

Also, with the advantage of being on the Saigon River, the resort has exploited this advantage by building up a fleet of boats. It has small family-sized speedboats, 15-seat craft, and 30-seat, 40-seat and 100-seat boats. With the safety features attended to, including insurance, this is a good place to take a sightseeing tour of the river. The resort organizes tours combining visits and gastronomy on the Saigon River to other tourist attractions like Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, Cu Chi Tunnels, Lai Thieu, Binh Duong, and so forth. Currently, the resort is researching tours on small boats which will combine enjoying food and listening to ca co, a southern traditional music form, while traveling on the river.

Another special tourist entertainment at Binh Quoi II Tourist Resort, one favored especially by international tourists, is the Southern Traditional Wedding show. The program is meticulously arranged, with scenes depicting traditional wedding of southern people, comprising matchmakers, engagement groups and groups where the groom comes to the bride’s home to take her back to his family’s home. There also are dancing and music shows typical of the southern traditional, cultural features.

This program is on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., a boat picks up tourists at Bach Dang Wharf and takes them on a tour on the Saigon River. Then, when the boat arrives at Binh Quoi II, the tourists have dinner and watch the show at 7 p.m. The package tour costs US$13 a tourist. This is the only place giving Vietnamese culture performances for international tourists in HCM City. With the care taken over the program it is an attractive and impressive entertainment for a great number of tourists.
