Visiting Vung Ro Bay
Visiting Vung Ro Bay, leaving the coastal city of Nha Trang, the AeroSpace bus of S.Tours heads northward on National Road 1A for Phu Yen Province, which is home to a small bay called Vung Ro.
The imposing landscapes along the road with the mountains on the right and the sea on the left quickly pass through the bus windows. After covering some 100 kilometers, the bus mounts Ca Pass, where there is a narrow road on the famous Truong Son mountain range. From above, seawater looks sparkling in the small bay, which is historically known as "a trail on sea".
From the beginning of a road leading to the bay, there stands a marble monument hidden in some bushes. The two-meter-tall monument was built to remember an event in 1965, in which an unnumbered ship fought the enemies while docking near a big rock to unload weapons to the liberation troops.
There have been a
lot of changes since the war was over. It is now hard to find that
rock. Vung Ro is no longer an isolated bay.
In 1979, a farmer named Chau Dinh Khang brought his family including 13 members to set up business there. Vung Ro has developed from a deserted land into a peaceful village today with over 115 families. There are schools for kids and people there are becoming rich thanks to lobster farming.
Vung Ro is planned to be an important deep water port to support the economic zone in the central province of Phu Yen.
