On the way to Thuan An beach is a water park and
resort that has been built around a natural cold spring -- the water
park includes several hot springs, a wave pool, a wide variety of
waterslides, and a 'massage' pool with numerous shooting jets of water.
It's a great place to take the kids, and the hot springs are quite
popular in during the winter months. It advertises itself as a place
for 'convalescence' in the old European tradition of the 'spa cure,'
but trust us, it's really just a water park. The prices vary depending
on how much of the park you pay to see, but 50,000 VND will get you in
to pretty much everything. If you arrive on an off day, some of the
pools may be closed for cleaning. Also, some of the machinery -- the
wave pool, the massage jets -- may be switched off, but just ask and
they'll switch it on for you. Try hitting the park on a Saturday when
it's fully functional and full of people for a more festive atmosphere.
There are places to buy drinks -- a number of which are bottled
beverages made from the Thanh Tan spring water -- and there's also a
restaurant.
The cold springs are free to the public -- when you arrive in the main
parking area, go left towards the bridge, but don't cross over -- take
a right and follow the road 'til it ends and take a left. 700m down
you'll cross through a gate, where you'll bear right. There's no
waterfall, and the spring is pretty shallow, but it's a decent place to
cool off and have a picnic on a hot day.
You can stay overnight at the resort as well, at the Thanh Tan Hotel
and Villas. If you stay in one of the Villas you can take a bath in
room in water from one of the hot springs. Hotel rooms are 250,000VND a
night, Villas are 350,000. The accommodation is decent but nothing
special.
How to get there: To get there, depart from Vy Da Ward on
the south bank of the Huong River, taking Pham Van Dong Rd north until
it tees and bear right. Follow the road for 20km until you cross a
large river -- there's a big sign for the resort on the left. Take a
left and continue 8km to the springs.
