Located just 50 kilometers from the bustling capital of Hanoi, Quan Son tourist site in Ha Tay Province retains its wild and tranquil beauty as an idyllic out-of-the-way picnic spot.
Visitors to the area will discover three adjoining lakes, including Giang Noi Lake which is around 800 hectares large, where they can enjoy boating excursions or quietly contemplate floating lotus blossoms on the lake's surface.
A strange plant called Mat Trang (Moon) is native to these lakes.
Its leaves are as round as the moon and its flower blossoms are shaped like starfish.
On the lake, houses-on-stilts, serve as places for one to stop for a picnic and take a rest.
Rural villages around the lakes also display warm and generous hospitality towards visitors.
Passing the Dong (East) Bridge, one reaches the Giang Noi wharf.
Standing on its banks, visitors will marvel at Quan Son's magnificent and peaceful environs with imposing cliffs overlooking the green water and flocks of white egrets leisurely stretching their wings.
In the rainy season, waterfalls from the mountains cascade into the lakes, creating white spumes that add to the splendid scenery.
From October to March, the Voi (Elephant) Valley – the bird watching spot in Quan Son – is especially appealing with a great number of species flocking to build nests and shelters.
