Tourists enjoy bathing in the fresh water of Yang Bay Waterfall near Nha Trang

The fine beaches of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Prov-ince are very well known among Vietnam’s tourist brigade. However, whenever you go to the coast city, don’t forget to save time to pass by Yang Bay Waterfall.

Several years ago, Yang Bay was still an unknown place. It lies deep in a valley surrounded by thick forest in the mountainous district of Khanh Vinh in the central province.

The waterfall reached fame only once the province decided to develop it as a tourist site, building a road to lead to it. Now especially young Vietnamese flock there as a refreshing excursion from Nha Trang.

The road to the waterfall, some 600 meters above sea level in Y Bay Village, cuts through hills and fields, making for an extremely scenic ride.

Yang Bay, whose name means “waterfall of heaven” in the language of the regional Raglay ethnic minority, feeds much water into the Cai River in Nha Trang.

From the top, the waterfall running through the natural forest makes a variety of stops, forming many small pools. Those receive the clean water from above and then after keeping it for a while, pour it out downstream.

The droplets then fly through the air in all directions, creating a thousand tiny sparkles. At the foot of the waterfall is a lager pond. A layer of sand covers its bottom.

The attraction of Yang Bay depends on a strong will of conquering. The farther you climb up, the more beautiful it gets. Many tourists conquer the waterfall by making their way gradually up and up.

To reach the very top, you have to climb over many huge rocks, and as far as we know, few people have managed to get to the waterfall’s upper reaches. Normally, tourists will rest at the second or third plateau that the waterfall forms. Once they have found a large rock to relax on, they are unlikely to get up again!

Those, who don’t want to rest on the rocks, can fold up their trousers to wade through the pond, whose water level is about knee-high. Once they are on the other side, they can explore the thick forest or lie down upon the carpet of leaves in the trees’ cool shade.

In addition, when visiting Yang Bay, tourists can hear not only the sound of water splashing over the rocks but also the sound of the dan da, or lithophone.

The typical musical instrument of the Raglay is made of stone slabs linked together by a cable. When hitting on the slabs, the sound is that of wild nature.

Traveling to Yang Bay on the weekend, tourists can see pig races, another attraction. Besides, restaurants serve regional specialties.

Apart from Yang Bay, another waterfall called Hocho is nearby. Hocho, often compared to Dalat’s Prenn Waterfall, is very typical in that the flowing water is warm on one and cold on the other side!

To get to Yang Bay from Nha Trang, tourists can take a motorbike and go some 40 kilometers to reach Song Cau Commune. Then they must turn left and go straight for some five kilometers more
