
For generations, communal house has become a very familiar image that is close to daily life of the Vietnamese. This house witnesses all daily activities of life in countryside. This feature dramatically makes any communal houses to be places of strong cultural values of any regions. Communal houses in Hoi An - a land of vestiges - are of no exception since they have also become places for tourists to get to know more about history of a busy trading port in the old days.
Minh Huong communal house (Minh Hương Tụy Tiên)
Located at 14 Tran Phu (Trần Phú) street, Minh Huong communal house is architecture of belief of the Chinese. Minh Huong was formed to worship ancient sages. This is really a typical vestige that play a significant role in history of foundation as well as development of this ancient city - Hoi An.

Pho is a name of a village which firstly combines agricultural and
commercial activities in Hoi An in the old days. Nowadays, this ancient
communal house is located at the end of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai road
(Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai) where archaeologists have found a lot of
antiques that originate from China, Japan, etc.
Hoi An (Hội An) communal house
Hoi An communal house at number 27, Le Loi (Lê Lợi) street also known as Ông Voi communal house (elephant communal house), is a supernatural house in Hoi An. At the front of the house stand two elephants; tutelary god and some other waterway gods such as Thu Bon (Thu Bồn) God, Bo Ba (Bô Ba) lady are worshipped inside of the house.
Son Phong (Sơn Phong) communal house
This
communal house is named according to a village's name - Son Phong, a
village which was formed upon the mergence of villages including Dai An
(Đại An), Mau Tai (Mậu Tài), Phong Nien (Phong Niên) and a part of Son
Pho (Sơn Phô). Right at this communal house, there a plate carving four
words "Cứu nhân độ thế" (save mankind from sufferings) surrounded with
10 hovering phoenixes to memorise credits of villagers who had
contributed to the defence and construction of Son Phong village.
