At first it had the name Duc Ong Temple or Vo Mieu. The temple is located in Hong Son Ward, Vinh City. In the Anti US war (1964-1972), the lower sanctuary was ruined by bomb.

On the occasion of 210 years anniversary of Phuong Hoang Trung Do, the lower sanctuary was reconstructed in 1998 by the public funds of the Vinh City people's Committee.

Hong Son Temple is an excellent architectural relic, influenced by Nguyen Dynasty's architectural style. It still remains a valuable collection of statues. The temple was classified as national cultural historical vestige at the decision 144 QĐ/VH on August 30th 1984 by Ministry of Culture and Information.
