Dong Van is a land of harsh weather but it has wonderful beauty of a rocky area Cong Troi (Heaven Gate). At sunset, There are many unusual shapes with mysterious colours. For a long time, the rocky plateau Dong Van has become a famous place for photographers to come and take photos.


	A grandiose scenery

Dong Van is a highland district at the frontier of Ha Giang Province. This area has the height of 1,000 metres above the sea level. The terrain here contains almost rocky mountains. The district capital stays at 146 kilometres far from Ha Giang Township but transportation is very difficult. The district has 19 wards; 9 wards among those are contiguous to China. In winter, the temperature may go down to 1 Celsius degree. In summer, the highest temperature is only around 24 Celsius degree. The climate is rainy and foggy nearly all the year; therefore, the local residents a sentence: "It takes half a day to meet someone you see in your eyesight". Dong Van has the north pole of Vietnam which is located at Lung Cu. It is usually said that if you have not reached Lung Cu, it means that you have not been to Dong Van. It is because Lung Cu is considered as "the roof of Vietnam" where you can touch the sky when holding your head up.

Dong Van is famous for its delicious fruits: peach, plum, pear, apple, persimmon, etc, and precious medicinal plants like "tam that" (a kind of bulbous ginseng), rehmania glutinosa, anise and cinnamon. Dong Van is also well-known about its beautiful landscapes of mountains, caves and forests along with colourful flowers. Here is the place that inspires artists to create unique works in painting and photography in the world. Those works' topics are about the nature: mountains, forests, terraced fields, and so on.
Coming to Dong Van, tourists have a chance to challenge themselves with high mountain pass and abyss along with many sections that they must go on foot. In return, people can enjoy a great feeling when contemplating the wonderful landscape here and living with the inhabitants who are poor but always feel joyful and happy with their life. Besides, you can also set yourself free with the sound of pen-pipes and flutes; they may make you miss a lot when leaving to come back home.
